What do Bin Laden and I have in common?

April 25th, 2004 | Comments Off | Posted in Politics

We both support killing babies!

God I love Karen Hughes. What would I do if I didn’t have stuff like this to wake up to every morning?

Looks like the original article from the New York times was edited and that quote was removed, but the CNN transcript is available here and the original excerpt reported by DailyKOS is here.

Update (4/26 11:30 pm): John Stewart just played this clip on the Daily Show. Awesome.

Second Update (5/3 12:00 pm): Planned Parenthood has started a petition demanding an apology for these comments. I encourage you to sign.

Global Fever

April 22nd, 2004 | Comments Off | Posted in Politics

This is crazy:

Inter-annually, the 18-year Pathfinder data in this study showed global average temperature increases of 0.43 Celsius (C) (0.77 Fahrenheit (F)) per decade.

Makes me think of something I read in Rush Limbaugh’s book (know thine enemy, I always say) in which he said something to the effect of (and I’m paraphrasing), God created the earth and humans are incapable of damaging one of God’s creations. Pretty logical argument, and the facts seem to support it. For other brilliant Rushisms, and a good laugh (and then a sick feeling in the pit of your stomach) check this out.

In other wonderful news, I heard Bush’s speech in Maine on the radio today. I just heard a minute of it, but the part I caught was:

“But the thing I think is very important to emphasize here is that good conservation and good stewardship will happen when people say, I’m just not going to rely upon the government to be the solution to the problem. “

Brilliant. I’m sure the corporations responsible for most of the damage to the environment will be happy to take up the cause of conservation, just as soon as we roll back all those pesky regulations. That must be what’s stopping them from doing the right thing.

Arnold’s Total Body Workout

Aaaahnold! So the other day I was watching Subterranean and Pretty Girls Make Graves was on. They made some reference to the fact that they love Arnold and often listen to his workout CD before shows as a little, well, pick-me-up. So I went on amazon and found it; it’s called Arnold’s Total Body Workout and it’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard.

Anyways, my copy arrived today xD.

New Yahoo! Image Search

April 21st, 2004 | Comments Off | Posted in Yahoo! Related

We launched (officially) the new yahoo image search today. You can check it out at

It uses totally new backend technology and we’ve finally integrated Yahoo! News and Yahoo! Movies into the database, so queries like man on fire tend to return much better results than you’d get on Google. Here’s a complete list of what’s new.

Combined with the new news search, two of the major things I’ve been working on are finally out the door. Just you wait.

Slept right through my alarm, so I couldn’t bike in to work today. And then I checked Mark J’s blog and felt even worse about it, since his fat ass is back on the horse. If he can do it, so can I.

Actually, he had a cool entry about an article about his boss. Seems like things are going well out in Missourah.
