The Pitchfork 500 Analysis: Chapter I

January 16th, 2009 | Comments | Posted in Music, Personal, Site Info

As many of you know, I received the Pitchfork 500 from my parents as a Hanukkah gift, and it has since sparked a number of reactions from my various friends, ranging from grudging respect (John Collins) to genuine irritation (Stromberg). Soon after I started perusing the book, I had the idea of listening to every song while reading the associated blurb, so I decided to do just that. When I told my friends about my plan, Jesse, in particular, was intrigued, and last week he purchased the book himself and decided to do the same thing. Which brings us to yesterday, when I received the following email:

Tumblr Integration

August 5th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Site Info

Hey all.

So I’ve added Tumblr integration to the site using the FeedWordPress plugin. The plugin is scanning my Tumblog for posts and updating this blog accordingly. So if you’re wondering why there are suddenly 30 new posts, that’s why (I imported a bunch of old tumbles).

And you can always just follow my Tumblr blog directly, since I’ve been Tumblr blogging much more than regular blogging.

I have not been blogging…

But I have been tumbling. Check out my tumblog for updates, and meanwhile I’ll figure out how to integrate the tumblog into the site.

I’m a Bad, Bad Man

August 21st, 2006 | Comments | Posted in Personal, Politics, Site Info

Sorry for the lack of posting lately. I’ve had a couple political/philisophical-style rants I’ve been wanting to get down on paper, but this weekend I was swamped with getting my car fixed and shopping for my pool party next weekend (you think Socrates or Gautama ever had to deal with auto mechanics? No!). I’ve also been working on a new musical project… writing songs and lyrics for a “concept” album. I’m not ready to reveal the concept quite yet, but those of you who need to know already do. And I’ve also had an awesome idea for a book, but who has time to write these days?

Lastly, I’ve been reading Larry Gonick’s Cartoon History of the Universe recently. These things are hilarious and incredibly packed with information; I plan to make my children read them. And one thing you realize when you pass over the bloody, vicious history of human civilization: we are real softies these days. Even India, birthplace of Buddhism and Jainism, has a history of death and torture that would make any modern American’s toes curl. People like silly old Jack Thompson who claim that video games (!!!) are the cause of society’s ills should try this excercise: close your eyes, spin a globe, point at a spot (that isn’t on Antarctica), and thoroughly read the entire history of that place. Be sure to take note of every invasion, impressment, rape, pillaging, torture, stabbing, mutiny, revolution, beheading, decimation, poisoning, disembowelment, violent coup, etc, etc, etc… and if you’re lucky enough to get any place in Europe, Asia, or (god forbid) the Middle East, I hope you have a few weeks.

Born Again

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably noticed by now… things have changed slightly. Now I finally can explain why I haven’t been blogging this last month: I was working on this redesign. I’ve moved the blog from Movable Type to WordPress, and ordered up a shiny new domain name: Change your links.

So I have a few things saved up to blog about this week; I’m gonna finish my SXSW diary (it’s almost done) as well as follow this post up with some assorted things I wanted to discuss during the hiatus but couldn’t because the blog was in transition. Hope you enjoy the new look, let me know what you think and feel free to report any bugs (broken links, images, feeds, etc).
