Many of you voted your morals on Tuesday. Well, I’ve got a few questions about your morals.
Is it moral to underfund schools, leaving our children uneducated and unqualified to live and work in modern America? How would you feel if you couldn’t afford to send your child to a private school and your local public school wasn’t arming your child with the knowledge he or she needed? Or is that how it is already?
A wise man has great power,
and a man of knowledge increases strength
Choose my instruction instead of silver,
knowledge rather than choice gold
Is it moral to maintain close ties with the elite in the energy industry while making vital decisions about the regulation of that industry? How good was our president’s moral compass when he picked Ken Lay as one of his friends? Did our vice president have morality in mind when his company defrauded you for millions?
The scoundrel’s methods are wicked,
he makes up evil schemes
to destroy the poor with lies,
even when the plea of the needy is just.
Is it moral to let the rich get richer while the poor suffer in poverty? Do the people who have more than they could ever need have no obligation to help those who don’t have enough to feed their children? Should we continue to force the poor to make the tax investments that pay for our roads, our schools, and our military while simultaneously cutting programs like welfare, health care, and education?
“They do not know how to do right,” declares the Lord,
“who hoard plunder and loot in their fortresses.”
Is it moral to prevent two people who love each other from publicly expressing that love? To prevent them from moving on to the next phase of their lives in which they settle down, provide for their children and give back more to the community? Remember, just 40 years ago, interracial marriage was illegal in many states. How would you feel if the goverment told you you couldn’t get married to the person you loved because of your religion or race? Is outlawing gay marriage so different?
Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.
Is it moral to pass a ‘Clear Skies Act’ that raises the level of allowed pollution? Is it moral to pass a ‘Healthy Forests Initiative’ that encourages clear cutting? Is it moral to be disingenuous about raping nature so the rich can get richer?
A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal,
but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.
Is it moral to prey on fear and lie to your countrymen in order to convince them to go to war?
Imagine those 19 hijackers with other weapons and other plans — this time armed by Saddam Hussein.
George Bush, January 28 2003
Baghdad for now appears to be drawing a line short of conducting terrorist attacks with conventional or CBW against the United States, fearing that exposure of Iraqi involvement would provide Washington a stronger cause for making war.
Iraq probably would attempt clandestine attacks against the U.S. Homeland if Baghdad feared an attack that threatened the survival of the regime were imminent or unavoidable, or possibly for revenge.
National Intelligence Estimate, October 2002
The Lord detests lying lips,
but he delights in men who are truthful.
Is it moral to foster a “culture of life” in which we deny pre-natal and post-natal care to women whom we force to bear unwanted children? One in which we execute the mentally impaired? One in which we refuse to use dead tissue to find cures to heal the sick?
Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky. How is it that you don’t know how to interpret this present time?
Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?
Make no mistake about it: your faith should influence your moral values. But you need to figure out whether the decisions you are making are really in line with those values you claim to cherish; knowledge, wisdom, responsibilty, fairness, compassion, trust. It took me five minutes to find the bible quotes on this page; you probably live by every one. Does Bush?
